Oh, my, there's all sorts of stuff that goes on between the AM BCB and the FM BCB. That portion of the spectrum is called HF or High Frequency. It's generally what we call the "short wave bands". Between 1700KHz and 30MHz, you'll find all of the international short wave broadcasters, standard time and frequency stations, amateur radio bands, the citizens' band and bunches of other stuff. UPI and AP have had their news radio teletype frequencies in this area. Get your hands on a general coverage short wave receiver and you'll have a blast! Transmissions are AM, CW, SSB, RTTY, facimile, slow scan TV, etc. Between 30MHz and 88MHz (the low end of FM) there is the 6 meter ham band and the lower VHF analog television channels as well as other communications bands. The Missouri State Highway Patrol uses 42MHz for some of their communication. Dean
